WHAT IS YOUR VIEW ON THE VALUE OF REFWORKS?

RefWorks is a tool designed to help researchers/students gather, manage, store and share all types of information, as well as generate citations and bibliographies. A trial period until 31 July has been established for you to test it and let us know what you think and whether it is worth subscribing to. RefWorks can be found on the Library’s website under news or at: http://library.sun.ac.za/eng/finding/e_trials.html.

I am very enthusiastic about Refworks and I have no doubt that it is an essential tool for the library to buy. I have tried to use the open source equivalent but have found it difficult to use and without as many features. I especially like the ease with which I have been able to share refernce sets with research groups in different countries and continents and how we have been able to use the comment feature. The RefAware alerts work well and are so much more convenient than other alerts systems I have used. I find the Write n Cite especially convenient to use and far better than EndNote and EndNote Web. Refworks will help me with my research - most research colleagues at major universities have it as well - but also with teaching and training students in academic writing. I think we should definitely get it for the university.
